House Rental

The Atwood House is affectionally called The Marilaine, after Bob and Evangeline’s two daughters Marilyn and Elaine. The home was built in 1968 and looks like it was plucked straight from the deep-south. It sits on nearly three acres of manicured lawn that includes garden paths surrounded by statues, with a magnificent fountain as the focal point. And with its whitewashed antebellum columnar exterior and wrap around balcony, it is truly a one of a kind structure in Alaska.

The Marilaine was the site for many lively parties and social gatherings over the years. Bob and Evangeline Atwood who owned and operated the Anchorage Times newspaper, would frequently entertain traveling dignitaries including US Secretaries of State, four star generals, and international journalists. There are many people today who still fondly remember the energy and enthusiasm that emanated inside the house.

The Atwood Foundation Board would like to rekindle some of that vitality and now offers the house to non-profit organizations for their fundraising activities. This Anchorage showpiece offers an intimate and unique setting for any event.
