Sara Perman

Sara Perman

Sara's Anchorage roots run deep – she is a lifelong resident with an extensive background in the vibrant arts and journalism communities that our foundation proudly supports. From her early days dancing with Alaska Dance Theater to playing first-chair violin in the Anchorage School District Honor Orchestra, Sara's passion for the arts has always been evident. But her connection to the Foundation’s mission does not end there – she is also the recipient of two Alaska Press Club Awards for her radio storytelling.

Sara brings eight years of experience in public affairs, having served most recently as the State Government Relations Manager for the University of Alaska. In addition, Sara has been an integral part of the Atwood Foundation for the past five years, working closely with the current Executive Director and board of directors on grant management and fostering strong relationships with many of our grantees. Her dedication to community support was further demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic when she successfully managed the distribution of $4.7 million from the City of Homer's economic relief grant programs. Now, she returns home with a commitment to enriching Anchorage's community, particularly by supporting projects and programs in the fine arts, journalism, history, and civic enterprises.

Sara will officially start in her new role in late July with a short transition period with retiring long-time Executive Director Ira Perman. We're excited to see her vision and energy propel our organization forward as we embark on this new chapter together.
